Frequently Asked Questions
–What chickens do you run?
We run SBA’s Hyline Brown chickens which are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Rhode Island White making the ultimate egg layer.
+What do your chickens live in?
Our chickens live in specially designed houses that are moved throughout the paddock ensuring that these chooks always have access to fresh feed for them to scratch, forage and run through.
+What do your chickens eat?
Our chickens are fed a GMO free scratch mix as a staple part of their diet along with whatever other goodies they find in their paddock.
+How often do your chooks get moved?
Our chookies get moved every week onto a fresh new spot of pasture ensuring they always have access to fresh pasture.
+What does pastured mean and how does it differ to free range?
Pastured means that the chooks are always outside with access to fresh pastures for them to scratch through. Pastured usually means lower stocking densities with our chookies being at 350 hens per hectare. “Free range” can mean chooks living in sheds with access to outside through a door, while also living at much higher densities – up to 10,000 hens per hectare.
