We are pleased to say there is a semblance of routine again at the farm. After a busy year upgrading infrastructure and storm recovery things feel as if they may be under control!
Agvention Field Day
A highlight has been speaking at Agvention at the Kandanga Farm Store. This is Australia’s leading Regenerative and Organic Farming Field Day. With a focus on ideas and innovation the event invites participants to dive into a range of topics that push paradigms. We posed questions about taking ownership of a positive future for agriculture and talked about what you can do today to create the future you want for yourself, your family and community. As always, our vision is for a future where regenerative agriculture and organic eating is the norm.
Pigs and Christmas hams
Preparations are in full swing to ensure we keep up with demand for Christmas hams and bacon.
We have about 30 grower pigs coming along and some piglets due for weening in the coming week.
Chickens
With upgrades complete we are settling into our new system which allows half the area to grow and recover and the other half for the birds to eat. We are pleased to have a set-up which fits better with our ideologies. It is allowing greater recovery for the pasture and a hiding place for smaller animals to live in. We are also hoping that the summer growth will provide a good body of feed for winter.
For now, there is less work in the chook house. New pullets arrive in the New Year to keep us busy.
Cattle
There has been great excitement with the birth of our very first set up twins. Multiple births are unusual in cattle, but they are doing well.
Cover crops
This year we have been on time with sewing. Being organised feels good and thanks to the rain crops are growing well. There is a good body of feed for the cattle.
